Website design — presentation

Ways this site could work.

Each direction below is a working website, not a picture of one. Open any of them, click through the pages, use the controls. They share identical content on purpose — so the comparison is about design, not about wording.

Everything here is placeholder. Product specifications, prices and copy are drawn from Reflector Audio's own published material and have not been confirmed. Nothing on these pages should be treated as approved text.

01 / Instrument

Measurement as
the aesthetic.

Six pages · dark · technical

Built to look like a measurement instrument rather than a brochure — a Tektronix manual, a lab report, a specification sheet. Every drawing is hand-drawn vector: dimensioned elevations, a hatched section, a real on-axis response curve, a polar directivity plot. No photography anywhere.

  • Live horn-finish selector — Oxide, Signal, Graphite — recolours the product in place
  • Working contact form with confirmation, and a configure-a-pair commerce section
  • Home · Square Two · Q1818 · Technology · Company · Contact

02 / Signal

The colour field
does the talking.

Six pages · dark · commerce

Graphite chrome with a full-bleed lacquer field that changes colour with the finish you pick. Archivo and DM Mono, rounded cards, counters that animate up. The most complete store of the set — it runs on the real research data, so the prices and the range match what we actually know.

  • Home · Collection · Product · About · Contact · Checkout, with order confirmation
  • Cart drawer, model chips and a four-lacquer configurator that repaints the page
  • Six models including Q1818 at "on application" and the L12 / T8 placeholders

Dark editorial,
gold on black.

Three pages · dark · editorial

Bodoni Moda set enormous against near-black, with italic emphasis and an antique-gold accent. Reads like a limited-edition monograph rather than a shop. A running ticker, a numbered detail index, and a list of listening rooms by city.

  • Ten-plate detail index with click-to-enlarge lightbox
  • Horn configurator with a glow field behind the selected lacquer
  • Cart drawer written as a build sheet, not a basket

Paper, light,
and a lot of air.

Three pages · light · gallery

The only light direction. Warm paper, tight Helvetica headlines against EB Garamond italics, and a terracotta accent. Product photography sits in a horizontal gallery you drag sideways. Nothing shouts; the restraint is the argument.

  • Drag-scroll plate gallery with a full-bleed lightbox
  • "Enquiry list" instead of a cart — no prices pushed at the visitor
  • A four-step method section, numbered in roman

05 / Console

The website
as an application.

Four panes · dark · software

Not a page — a workstation. A fixed three-pane shell that never scrolls the whole window: source list on the left, stage in the middle, inspector on the right, tabs across the top and a live status bar along the bottom. Manrope and JetBrains Mono. The stage repaints to the lacquer colour as you select it. On a phone the panes stack into a single column and the workspace scrolls.

  • SELECT · CONFIGURE · ORIGIN · CONTACT tabs, plus a full checkout with card fields
  • Bar-meter readouts for output, reach and room size, per model
  • Detail bank of ten thumbnails docked in the sidebar

06 / Aperture

Written like
a magazine.

Six pages · light · long-form

A printed feature rather than a product page. Newsreader at 146px with an italic in terracotta, a genuine three-column article with a drop cap, a full-bleed dark pull quote, and the range set as an editorial index. The strongest writing of the eight.

  • Home · The six · Product · The workshop · Enquiries · Checkout
  • Ten-plate gallery, basket drawer and a full checkout with order reference
  • Q1818 correctly reads "on application" rather than carrying a price

07 / Instrument — light

Drawing sheets
on graph paper.

Six pages · light · technical

The same argument as direction 01, inverted. Graph-paper ground, a drawing-office title block across the top, pages numbered as sheets, and a single drafting blue. Instrument Sans against Space Mono. Shows the client what the technical position looks like in light rather than dark.

  • Home · Range · Product · Origin · Enquiry · Checkout, numbered SHEET 01–05
  • Title block with subject, series, origin and first-prototype date
  • Shares a name with direction 01 — rename either if it confuses the room

08 / Signal — first revision

Where Signal
started.

Three pages · dark · superseded

The first pass at Signal, kept for reference. Same palette family as direction 02, but three pages instead of six, an invented model range, and a press marquee that was dropped. Useful if the client prefers the tighter, louder version.

  • Superseded by direction 02 — shown so the progression is visible
  • Press marquee and animated stat counters
  • Model range and pricing here are invented, not from research
